TOP 3 TIPS to Set Up Your O-G Online with Ease

Most of us have had the experience of teaching online during the pandemic. Scrambling for materials and resources was overwhelming and managing unforeseen behavior problems was even more so. How can you get online with ease? Here are my top 3 tips to setup your online OG lesson. Let’s start by chatting about tech.

Tech Setup

My number one affordable recommendation is to grab a document camera. With a document camera, you can use so many of your own materials. I love the InSwan Document Camera . It allows you to zoom in with the touch of the mouse, maintain video with students in Zoom, take screenshots, and so much more.

Invest in Tech

If you are going to consider teaching online in your tutoring career, you may want to invest even more in tech. A pivot came in my business when I traded my Macbook Air on Black Friday 2018 with my mom, and she got me the Surface Pro for Christmas. Why do l love the Surface Pro? It is both a touch screen and laptop. Having a touch screen device is a game changer when teaching online.

Your Materials

Now, let’s chat about your office setup. Everything should be within reach. If everything is in reach, you maintain control of the lesson and your students' attention. I was so sad when I had to say goodbye to my pocket chart, but, realistically, it wasn’t the best to use online. It was just too far from the computer.

I found this little container at Michaels, and it holds all my cards - bonus, everything stays within reach. Other tips for setting up the office include nearby drawers, a side table to hold books and binders during your lesson, your favorite ☕️,  and fun baskets in a bookcase to grab and put near your desk during the lesson.
